Flood & Fire Recovery
Following a flood or a fire, sometimes it's difficult to know where to start. This is where CERT (UK) come into their own. Our amazing team of volunteers will meet with the new clients, complete a client registration form and assess the needs of the client, their partner and dependants (should they have them), along with any animals or pets in the home. From there, tailored support is provided to address any immediate and longer-term challenges, ensuring that the unique circumstances of each household are taken into account. The aim is to restore a sense of normality and offer reassurance during what can be a very stressful time, helping individuals to regain confidence and re-establish their independence within the community.

Homelessness
Latest figures for homelessness in civilians within the United Kingdom The latest statistics on homelessness in civilians within the United Kingdom reveal a mixed picture of the situation. While there has been a decrease in the number of households assessed as homeless, the number of households in temporary accommodation has increased, indicating a continued crisis. The Salvation Army has warned that recent welfare cuts could put more people at risk of losing their homes. The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government has reported a 10.4% increase in initial assessments for households in England, with a significant rise in those assessed as threatened with homelessness. However, the number of households assessed as homeless has seen a 12.3% increase, highlighting the ongoing challenges in addressing homelessness.

Domestic Violence
Domestic Violence – Once you decide that you can’t stay any longer, you grab what you can and leave. Depending on your situation and circumstances, you may be sent far away from your present home, sometimes with nothing but the clothes on your back. This is where CERT (UK) and their support comes into play. Our team understands the urgency and sensitivity of such situations. We offer a discrete and compassionate response, ensuring that individuals and families affected by domestic violence have immediate access to safe accommodation, essential supplies, and emotional support. We can also assist with practical matters such as arranging transport, liaising with local authorities or refuges, and providing information about legal rights and available grants. Our ongoing support aims to empower survivors as they rebuild their lives safely and confidently, free from fear and isolation.

Armed Forces Community
The Armed Forces Community encompasses not only serving and former members of the British Armed Forces but also their families, dependants, and carers. This broad community includes regular and reserve personnel, veterans of all ages, spouses or partners, children, and those who support them. It recognises the unique sacrifices and experiences shared by those connected to military service, and the ongoing impact that serving in the Armed Forces can have on individuals and their loved ones. By acknowledging this wide-ranging group, support services aim to address both the immediate and long-term challenges faced by all those who have served, as well as their families, ensuring no one is overlooked.

Disability and/or Additional Needs
Disability comes in many forms and with it, so can the challenges of everyday life. With this in mind, whenever someone with a disability approaches us, we make it a priority to seek appropriate medical advice and guidance before offering any help or support. As we are not medically trained, we limit our involvement to providing advisory support and signposting to suitable services, ensuring the individual's safety and well-being remain paramount. Our team works closely with healthcare professionals and specialist agencies to ensure that any recommendations or assistance offered are tailored, respectful, and in line with best practice, thus supporting each person to live as independently and comfortably as possible.

Crisis, Emergency & Disaster
No one knows what is around the corner. We can't see into the future, or plan for the unknown. This is where again the CERT team come into their element and show their commitment to supporting those in need. Their ability to respond swiftly and adapt to whatever challenges arise ensures that every individual receives not just assistance, but genuine care and reassurance during their most vulnerable moments. By being consistently present and resourceful, the CERT team offer hope and stability, even when circumstances feel overwhelmingly uncertain.

Life Skills Workshops
Alongside our work with veterans, CERT (UK) offers tailored lifestyle training packages designed to meet the unique and individual needs of those with disabilities, additional needs, NEETs (young people Not in Education, Employment, or Training), young parents, or anyone identified by professionals as likely to benefit from such interventions. These packages are carefully developed to support personal growth, enhance independence, and empower participants to overcome barriers in their daily lives. Our approach is flexible and responsive, ensuring that every individual receives guidance and training appropriate to their circumstances and aspirations.

CERT (UK) do not have any paid members of staff. All those who are part of CERT are volunteers. This means that 90% of all donations go straight to where they need to be. The 10% left over goes to the day-to-day running costs of the charity. We pride ourselves in knowing, unlike some of the bigger charities, those in need benefit greatly from a larger amount getting to the grassroots.
